This recipe is from the Pioneer Woman Cooks.
You will need:
  • 1 ½ sticks salted butter, softened
  • Good quality thick loaf of french or sourdough bread
To start, get a thick loaf of french or sourdough bread.  Put your stick and a half of butter out to soften to room temperature.  You could always put it in the microwave (in its little butter wrapper) for a few seconds but don’t let it melt.
So now, slice your loaf in half with a serrated bread knife and coat your two halves of the bread with the butter and cover it COMPLETELY.  Cover every single crack and crevice and hole in that bread all the way to the edges of the bread.  Place your bread in a 350 degree oven for 10 minutes, just long enough to melt the butter.
Then broil bread for 3 to 5 minutes, watching the whole time. Remove when butter has started to brown but don’t be afraid to let it get really brown.  The flavor really kicks in when the butter’s color changes.  Everyone will wonder what you seasoned it with when all along it was just butter.

Slice into strips and serve immediately.  It goes with everything and makes any meal ‘special.’
