Crunchy Outside, Chewy Inside Chocolate Chip Cookies

Another great cookie recipe.  I made these cookies over the weekend and they were so good.  This recipe turns out a cookie that is crunchy on the outside and chewy in the middle.  Next time I will add a teaspoon of cinnamon because I like it in my chocolate chip cookies.

Makes 4 dozen

  1. 1 cup butter, softened
  2. 1 cup white sugar
  3. 1 cup packed brown sugar
  4. 2 eggs
  5. 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
  6. 3 cups all purpose flour
  7. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  8. 2 teaspoons hot water
  9. ½ teaspoon salt
  10. 1 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  11. 1 cup chopped walnuts

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water.  (I didn’t dissolve it–just sprinkled it in).  Add to batter along with salt.  I ran the beater for just a short time to make sure the soda and salt were evenly distributed.  Stir in flour, chocolate chips, and nuts. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans.  (I did not flatten them but molded them into balls and baked them that way).
  3. Bake for about 8 minutes (no longer or they will get hard) in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.
