Manhatten Steak

We used this recipe as newly-weds when we had very little money.  I got this recipe from my friend Lisa, when we lived in university student housing.  I’m saving it here because it’s from the good old days.  I’m not sure why I picked this photo except that it makes me laugh and because Chevy Chase reminds me of your dad.

  • 1 lb ground hamburger
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 slice bread
  • 1/2 Tablespoon flour
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup and one dry onion soup mix package combined
  • 1 egg
  • 1 soda cracker
  • Salt and Pepper

Mix ground hamburger, egg, onion, cracker, bread, salt and pepper together until blended.  Shape it into 1/2″ thick patties and brown in frying pan.  Then heat in 300 degree F oven in casserole dish covered with cream of mushroom soup mixed with a packet of onion soup mix.
