Joseph Fielding Smith’s Favorite Sherbet

This recipe is from your dad’s Aunt Amelia Smith McConkie.

  •  5 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 quarts water
  • 1 quart whipping cream
  • 2 quarts milk
  • Juice of 6 oranges
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • 1 16-oz can crushed pineapple and juice
  • 3 or 4 bananas, mashed

Combine sugar, salt, cornstarch, and water.  Cook till clear, then cool.  Add whipping cream and milk.  Add orange juice and lemon juice, crushed pineapple, and mashed bananas.  Pour into 8-quart ice-cream freezer and freeze.  Cut recipe in half to make 4 quarts.
