Tator Tot Casserole

I think this is one of Sara’s favorite comfort foods.


1 lb hamburger

Small onion, chopped

2 cans Cream of Mushroom Soup (somestimes I will use 1  can Cream of Mushroom and 1 can cream of Potato Soup)

1 – 1 1/2 bag of tator tots

2 dry onion soup mix packages

cheddar cheese

1-4 to ½ cup milk

Brown hamburger and onion.  Drain grease.  Mix together cans of soup with dry onion soup mix.  Blend hamburger and onion into soup mix.  Add a little milk to thin it.  Grease 9×13 pan.  Layer bottom of pan with tator tots.  Spoon hamburger/soup mixture over tots.  Top mix with second layer of tots.  Bake at 350° for about 20 minutes or until hot and tots look browned.  Sprinkle cheddar cheese over top and bake until cheese melts.
