“And what am I to do on the occasion? — It seems an hopeless business.” –Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
The above quote makes me laugh because this is the recipe that dad liked so much that he snuck some when Grandma made it, knowing he wasn’t supposed to eat any yet.
This recipe comes from Aunt Janet. She said it was one of your father’s favorite recipes when he was a boy. She said: “Once, when he was a teenager, he ate some from the refrigerator before he was supposed to. He basically explained his naughtiness by saying that he knew he shouldn’t eat it, and he knew he would be punished for eating it, but he wanted it so much that it was worth it. I recall that he received no punishment at all.”
Line 9×13 pan with crust: 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs, 2 Tablespoons softened butter, 2 Tablespoons sugar combined.
Prepare one 4 oz. package Dream Whip
In separate bowl mix:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 8 oz. package cream cheese
- 2 Tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Add Dream whip and spoon onto crust.
Prepare one 6 oz. package strawberry jello with 2 cups boiling water. Add 2 packages frozen strawberries. Put on top and chill till set.
(I have made this recipe substituting a small tub of cool whip for the Dream Whip and it turned out just fine – Janet.)
